Are All Psychiatrists The Same?

Psychiatrists can further specialize in other areas, like caring for children and adolescents, geriatric population, addiction, consult-liaison (consultants to other providers for patients hospitalized for other medical reasons). They can also tailor their practice in certain areas based on their passion. Some Psychiatrists focus mainly on medical care and medication management, while others like me, incorporate psychotherapy or talk therapy in our approach.

Each provider has their own working style and personality. I’m a Psychiatrist who focuses on a holistic approach integrating behavioral/thought strategies and self-care (body and brain) to help my patients feel happier and healthier. I prescribe medications only if necessary, and I emphasize that it’s not a replacement for lifestyle changes and learning new ways of thinking to feel better. Psychotherapeutic approaches play a significant part in my practice. I teach patients strategies to reframe their thoughts, discover new meanings for their past and present experiences, and create a new narrative to gain control and motivation to live purposefully & happily.
